Wrap up: Legal Operations for Canadian GCs

Really insightful and useful GC Forum today with Joe Milstone of Legalyze Operations.

Drawing on more than 20 years experience in various roles in the legal industry (as a GC, founder of an ALSP, an E-I-R at Ryerson’s Legal Innovation Zone etc.), Joe shared with the participants his perspective on the value of looking to legal operations concepts as the way forward for legal departments.

Contrasting with the experience of the US where legal operations is now an industry in of itself, he was of the view that Canadian GCs would be more successful if they were laser-focused in the types of initiatives to be undertaken. In particular, Joe expressed the opinion that Canadian GCs should start their legal ops journey by looking at implementing in-house department practice management and contract lifecycle management tools.
